Mr. Mark Simonson points out that the world of The Royal Tenenbaums is completely set in the Futura font. I've never noticed the use of type in a film, unless we get chapter headings like the ones used in Kill Bill, but on the other hand I'm not a designer. What's interesting in this film by Wes Andersen, is that something so little as a type, usually only used to depict the period your story plays in, becomes much more significant.

Some phone calls today had me first out of a job, then flung into one I don't want. How did that happen? Simple: Mr. M, the person that has to give his blessing whenever I or one of my colleagues starts teaching somewhere, considers himself more of a task manager, looking for the right task for the right employee. Unfortunately this means you usually end up with the tasks you don't want in places you'd rather run away from. Instead of competing with other teachers to get a place in the school of my own choice, we are given teaching hours, following some strange logic that is totally comprehensable if you're Mr. M. Instead of half an hour I'll have to commute almost an hour now. Instead of the complete school year I only get to work for six months. Instead of a new place, I end up in a school where I taught over a year ago and don't want to go back to.
