Big in Belgium

It seems Maud Newton, whose blog I frequently quote here, is a personification of the saying "Big in Belgium". She and the rest of the Maud-clan have once recorded a song "that has been played on obscure Italian and Belgian radio stations." It reminds me very much of the film Singles, in which Matt Dillon says to his fellow band members when again the big breakthrough doesn't seem near: "Remember, we're big in Belgium and Italy."
