That's walking by car, actually. We left Montréal following the borders of the Lawrence River.

Then we started heading North. Our destination: Parc de La Mauricie
Already on our first walk there, we were rewarded with a view on the Canadian wildlife. We met (what I thought was) a beaver.

It isn't visible on this picture, though. You'll have to do with the dam, but trust me there was something swimming there and it wasn't a squirrel. (Talking about squirrels: those are really suicidal little beasts that run in front of your feet. Always look where you trod on Canadian trails.)
The next day we followed the trail Mékinac. It was in a somewhat swampy environment and I ended up with mosquito bites a plenty. The views were pretty though:

In case you're wondering: no, I usually don't take such good pictures. The first one was made by P. with my camera.
Leaving Parc de La Mauricie towards Tadoussac (yes, that's a long journey – it took us a day) we drove through the Gorges de la Marguérite. Much nicer in real life than on the photograph I must admit.

What does one do in Tadoussac? Whale spotting!
Cap-de-Bon-Désir
Also some walking...
(Trail of the Fjord)
And more walking in the Parc des Hautes Gorges de la Rivière Malbaie. It was Saturday when we arrived there and the trails were overrun by tourists and local Canadians. But if it isn't for the view, why do you bother to go up the mountain in the first place.

Date: 2005-08-21 12:56 pm (UTC)Would those suicidal squirrels have been chipmunks? Bit small and striped along the length of their body? Just about every wildish, touristy spot you go in termperate America chipmunks (and ground squirrels) are moochers, always begging for a handout of food.
Reminds me too I have a couple of beaver dams to tear up on my farm.

Date: 2005-08-21 01:59 pm (UTC)I know I probably saw some chipmunks, but didn't bother to look up what they looked like. Saw heaps of ground squirrels as they reside in the city parks as well I believe. Dogs like chasing them there.
(Do you also think about a cartoon featuring three or four chipmunks in a band singing with helium voices when you hear the word chipmunk? "Chipmunk voice" actually equals helium voice in my family because of that cartoon. I didn't know chipmunks were actual animals until years later when a friend of mine went to live in Québec and told me she had seen them...)
