"The American won't win," he says very confident and chews on his lips with his toothless mouth. You wonder what he's talking about. The war? He looks old enough to have lived through it.
"The German is much better." He must be talking about the war. What else do old men talk about on the tram?
"And the Espagnoles. They're very good." Wait, what has Spain to do with the war? You don't get it.
"Bottero, Heras... These are good guys, they will go for the win." Oh, he's talking about that kind of war! One that's won on a bicycle: Le Tour de France. It starts tomorrow and Jan Ulrich is determined not to let the American win his last tour ever.
"I'm 80 years old," the man says, "Born on the same day as Rik Van Stiênberghe. Ah, those were the days: Briek Schotte, Roger De Vlaming... Those were men."
You smile when the old man recounts how he saw his hero become world champion. "I was 25 years old then. Such a long time ago. Everything is different now." But everything is still observed and recounted with the same passion. The American? He won't make it this year.

The German managed to crash into the back window of his trainer's car today and now has a cut on his neck. The pictures I saw of him today looked like he'd been attacked by a vampire (who probably didn't like the extra ingredients in his blood and thus let him go).

Hahaha, good story. I heard it on the radio he fell, but he would be able to start tomorrow. *rolls eyes* As if I care!
