We had many conversations about religion this holiday, because we went to a couple of churches & museums with religious art.
It is not always easy to explain what people believe and why they go to church.

But so far, he hasn't really grasped that there are believers and non-believers. (I think. You don't always know what goes on in kids' heads.)

We haven't visited any churches from the inside yet, but we pass them often. And it's a bit of a professional habit of mine to start explaining the differences between being religious and being religious.

With three of his relatives getting a Christian funeral, he has witnessed some of the rituals of the Catholic & Protestant church. We explained them as helping to remember & celebrate the people who died & comforting those who believe. He likes looking at churches & keeps asking about the statues. This holiday we found out that the story of St.Barbara involves a tower just like Rapunzel. We treat all of it as stories that some people think are true.
