The science of hair
Apr. 16th, 2014 11:40 pmWhile I sit in the chair, having my hair cut, the intern observes and gets a lecture on cutting curly hair: twist and cut gently with the razor, or you hurt the curls. Layer, but not too much, or you'll end with a mushroom on the head. There's even some work on the jargon of 90s, 45s and inverted 45s.
"It's the science of cutting hair," I say.
"We don't cut whatever here," my hairdresser says, "and curls are difficult to cut and rare."
So when the curly head walks into the salon, you use the opportunity to teach, because it might be a couple weeks before the next one drops in.
