Three little stories, as a sign o' the times...

  • Be careful when photographing public sculptures in Chicago, they might be copyrighted*. (via Boing Boing)

  • More prove that you should secure your wireless network: How to take over a train station. (Okay actually more like: how to use the train station's open wireless internet connection, but any decent hacker loves a way in like this!) (via Slashdot)

  • Why I switched to Mac... I learned that it isn't because we're a smaller group that we don't get targetted by viruses, worms and spyware, but simply because Macs are more difficult to hack. I think this article ultimately also says: "You can have a good working Windows machine if you start paying attention to security." Most people actually don't know how their machines work, and MicroSoft sells them as "easy to use", which isn't true. Even for Mac it isn't completely true, but the security levels are higher when you start using them "out of the box" and you can make them even higher without much trouble. (via Penmachine)

*Actually you cannot copyright the public space. Whatever is in the public space is free for use for anyone, whether it's a film, a photograph, a drawing, whatever... What happens here is forcing upon unknowing people an interpretation of copyright laws that is incorrect.
