Would it be possible to attend this conference with a paper on the alleged reality of possible worlds in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer? I'd have to brush off my non-existent analytic philosophy skills for that one, and it doesn't really relate to "understanding social life and human experience", but I could always give a turn to it couldn't I? Then there's only the problem of not being an academic.

Thanks to Whedonesque.

There's a book by Robert Stalnaker in the bookcase... you might start there for an account of moderate modal realism and a glimpse of David Lewis' modal realism.

You might also check out the book by Max Cresswell which is on my desk. The first few chapters should provide you with a smooth introduction into the topic.

And you'd have to buy me seasons three (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005NGUP/qid=1103536635/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_11_5/026-0894728-9842062) and four (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005UWTH/qid=1103536635/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_11_6/026-0894728-9842062) of Buffy, so I can actually explore the episodes in question. ;-)
