She was sitting right next to the Christmas tree that was desperately trying to liven up the overcrowded classroom. Her black curly hair fell over the exam paper. When she lifted up her head to ask a question you could see the piercings in lip and eyebrow. She's not in your class. She's one of the "religious" kids. One, two, three, four, five, six little statuettes you count. Lucky charms, placed neatly on her table in a half circle. They look like Asian gods and godesses. "Does she believe in them?" you aks yourself. Or are they mainly there to make her feel comfortable?

You used to have a tuning-fork in your pencase. It would bring you luck during exams. Tuning-forks aren't very widely known for their luck bringing capacities, but this one did. Simply because you said so. It made you feel at home, imbueing something so utterly out of place with meaning that it would fit in between pens, paper, desks and total silence.
