The Time of our Singing (Richard Powers)

"She'd raise no child an ignorant, self-ruling savage. Mother and brood went and celebrated, while the doctor stayed home and worked. On holidays, even he had to scrub and attend. He stood among the believers, singing lustily, even speaking the Creed, although he coughed at all references to the deity."

I have read The Echomaker before, which I loved, but was very challenging to read and took me quite some time to get through. I usually only read when I'm travelling on public transport for a longer trip, so I'm not quite used to reading these "more difficult" novels these days. I usually reserve them for the Summer holidays. But I browsing in my favourite bookshop, and I just couldn't pass up on this novel, could I? I love it so far, but it's hard work to get through – though the kind of hard work that pays of tenfold.

His books are challenging but in a good way. Richard Powers is close to genius, I adore him.

When you're done, give a try to Galatea 2.2(it's one fo my favourites)and Three Farmers on Their Way to a Dance (his first novel).
