Here are some pictures from characters in Tim Burton's adaptation of the Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

There's a strange heated debate going on if these portrayals are Dahl worthy material. I like and even love them. This is going to be one great film.

I've not read the book since I was a kid, so I don't really remember how the characters were described. But it's apparently supposed to be a much darker, more sinister remake, so it should be interesting to see.

Depp is actually fairly disturbing just in those pictures....

I did read some Dahl books recently, but haven't reread Charlie.... I actually believe the book was darker than the first film they made. I've only seen that one once, so don't remember much of it.

Depp does look disturbing, but if I'm not wrong Wonka is a disturbing character. Everything goes wrong during the visit, but that's on purpose, so only one kid is left in the end. Hell, I should read the book again. :-)

P.S.: I'm also a huge fan of the Burton/Depp combo (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood), so in my opinion there isn't much that can go wrong. ;-)
