The irritation I feel towards the Belgian federal election have made me reading one more irritating opinion after the other on the internet. I have spent an entire evening being utterly miserable. And why? Probably because I like to impose hurt upon myself.

It's just appalling, isn't it? I'm voting for the Trotskyists in protest against the lot of them.

Being in Oxford at the moment I can't even vote, which makes it even more intolerable for me. On the one hand I'm glad I'm here, on the other I would like to give my one protest vote.

I try to avoid the comment threads of on-line newspaper articles for that reason, but sometimes I'm just drawn to them. Car crash and all that.

No absentee ballots in Belgium? Is that connected to having to vote when there?

Usually I don't read the comment threads, but well this time I was just drawn there. But even the regular articles are headdesk-worthy.

I don't know about absentee ballots. I think you have to go to the embassy then. I could have someone else vote for me, but that would have meant going to my own town hall to get the papers in order, and that was impossible because the government gave up when I was already here.
Luckily I only need to prove I was abroad in case they prosecute -- which hardly ever happens.
