Cycling on the bicycle path next to University Parks, we are met by scores of women and girls, all dressed in pink or adorned with pink attributes. Some are in full running gear, others are only recognisable by their numbers. I get a lump in my throat when I notice they're all running, walking, having fun for the same cause: Race for Life to raise money for cancer research. Some wear names of the people they're running for on their back. A little girl runs for Auntie Sally. I'd run for one of my colleagues, who'd post pictures on Facebook smiling to the world with all the hair gone from her head, for Derek, and for my first teacher (when I was three) who died some weeks ago.
