First Steps

She reaches out for daddy's hand when she tries on her new bright red shoes. Even though Little Bit took her first steps into this big world on Sunday, she prefers the safety of a grown-up hand to help her explore. Or maybe she just loves to show whatever interesting new thing has taken her fancy. She never tires of walking mummy or daddy – preferably both – around a room. Her gait is the penguin-like waddle of a small child still wearing nappies. And then, suddenly, she'll do it on her own: a little wind-up toy taking the world in stride, all laughs when mummy and daddy cheer her on.
