The archivist in me has lost a part of her memory. In an attempt to synch two computers, so I could take one with me to Oxford, my local mailboxes have gone awry: the content of mails isn't what it says in the subject line. Sometimes I want to reread old mails, like rereading old letters. I feel a part of me is lost now. Here's to hopefully finding the correct ones in Time Machine.

edit: Spent several hours putting things back to their rightful place thanks to Time Machine.

At first read I saw "the activist in me" and I couldn't figure out your problem!

I feel your pain - I have a computer at my homes in Bern and Lucerne and it's always tricky to make sure they're both up to date (especially because I collect and save all sorts of odds and ends like old e-mails... no need to delete with all the free GB on gmail anyway)! Memory sticks are a boon in that respect. I'm happy you managed to fix the problem!

Time Machine is wonderful on the Mac. It is very easy to restore things from the external hard drive, and backups happen automatically. And when I switched computers I used it to get the new one up and running in exact the same way as the old computer. But using Time Machine for file synching means reinstalling the OS.
