One year ago P. showed me a little bundle of a child with clear blue eyes and an angry face, because she had been forced to leave the warmth of the womb she'd been living in and she was already hungry. A helpless tiny thing was entrusted in our care. I didn't feel ready to be left alone with something so small and precious.
But you learn along the way. With every new step our Little Bit takes, we walk alongside her and learn together. When she crawls, we make sure there's nothing harmful on the floor. When she stands we put the CD's away. From day one she has been a very good communicator. Those big eyes, that have turned to dark brown over time, tell entire stories. She has learned gestures tell even more: "Pick me up Mama" or "Bye bye" or "Want that" or "No". Sign language is the first language to learn.
The best signs are those of affection. She'll stop her child's play for a moment to crawl to me and put her little head on my lap. Picking her up often ends in a big hug and her trying to eat my jaw. That must be her very own attempt at kisses. Or maybe she thinks her Mama is so cute she could eat her up. Like grown-ups could if they see her cute smile under her wonderful knitted hat.
Happy birthday Little Bit.

Date: 2009-12-09 05:33 pm (UTC)Happy Birthday to Little Bit! Slightly late though.
And did she get to unwrap presents?

Date: 2009-12-09 08:13 pm (UTC)Most of them weren't wrapped though. And the ones that were had to be unwrapped by Mama, so LB could play with and eventually eat the wrapping paper and not look at her new toy.
