In yesterday's newspaper* I read that one of the myths still standing about working mothers is that they wish for more quality time with the children, where they simply wish for more me-time. I take me-time whenever I see an opportunity for it. But I feel guilty because usually it's only filled with napping, lounging in front of the telly while some stupid show is on, and other time-wasting activities. The quality reading I wish to do, gets put on hold, because the sleeping in till nine in the morning interferes with house work. I have the sweetest daughter for letting me sleep that late and only complaining when I poke my head round the door to see whether she's up and I don't her immediately up from her bed. As long as no-one else is up, darling Li'l Bit doesn't wish to get up. Bless her.
This means I actually get to have some me-time, which I spend on the televised version of Facebook: Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance or whatever thing I find that needs watching. I just need to know what's on next, and don't seem to be able to do something useful while it's on. Like a social network service these reality shows suck you in and you keep watching them until there really is nothing more to see.
But the newness of digital TV will wear off one day, right?**
*I can only put up a general link because the article in question is hidden behind a pay-wall.
**I'm pretty confident this is wishful thinking. I'm still refreshing the pages on the various SNS I frequent, even though I've been writing here for over 5 years.
