I smiled and bit my tongue and didn't say that only appearing on her school on Friday didn't mean I hadn't worked the previous days. She still doesn't know the meaning of the word tact. The relationship with her teachers has come to a freezing point. She demands people tell her what they dislike about her behaviour. The room gets painfully quiet after that. These are the same teachers that don't have one good word for her in the teacher's lounge when she's not there. Already the school climate is full of negativism.
But I've also heard a teacher say: "I take the children as they come and I work with them as best as we can. They are all equal for me."
The kids themselves wave when I poke my head in their class to see who lives opposite my room this year. (I am the teacher who waves at the dreamers staring out the window.
