The mail man just came and brought birthday cards and a present! They're a day early. As will be my tiny party, because it's nice out today and we don't know what tomorrow will bring. We're going for a birthday pick nick in the park. Now should I open my present then or do I wait a day?

eta: It's raining. :-(

According to my (family's) traditions and superstitions:

You absolutely cannot open presents early! You'll have to be patient until just after midnight.

Just like I won't give out birthday congratulations early - though if it's a letter I'm sending that's fine, because I trust the person won't open the actual card until the day.

But that's just me and who am I to tell people to follow traditions if I disregard other's ideas of what is proper myself?

I already got a card yesterday, which I didn't open, because that felt like cheating, and I would ruin the whole birthday experience by opening everything too early. So I think I'll take your advice and wait. Not because I'm superstitious or something, but because I want to have a proper birthday with presents and cards. :-)

Thank you ma chérie.

Since I'll be doing a pick nick today, and the presents tomorrow, I might just make a birthday weekend of it. One doesn't turn 30 so often. :-)
