My comment: economically speaking it's more interesting to sell something with a loss than simply pull the plug.

Have I missed something? Is lj going to be shut down?

Never mind! I found this article http://www.custompc.co.uk/news/605367/livejournal-announces-mass-layoffs.html after I read your post. I have to say it's quite worrying. I'm sure I'd find somewhere else to go if lj closed down in the future, but there's a lot of things I'd like to save from previous posts. I'd have to go back through my entire journal, through 5 years of entries! - Perhaps I should start now... ;-)

That's the rumour, but I don't believe much of it. The Russians who bought LJ some time ago have fired a lot of people. Now the community believes it'll be the death of LJ. I haven't seen it yet on blogs outside LJ btw...

Hmm. So they're either doing it to protect lj and make sure it keeps going, or they're doing it as a last ditch attempt to hold off a shut down of lj... So... erm... it's either a positive or a desperate/negative move and no one knows which...? Haha.

Provided that they managed to sell it, which isn't sure in the current economic situation.
But well, I'm not too worried about LJ going down.
