Wow! That is indeed a car with lots of space.

That was the reason to buy it (and the fact it's inexpensive). We did get a second hand car, though (1 year old).

I haven't told this yet, I think, but P. can and will go to Oxford for a year, so we needed the bigger car to move ourselves and our gear there in July, as I will be accompanying him during the Summer holidays. After that we'll be doing a two-country-thing I guess.

And then there's the fact that our little faithful car becomes 10 in February, and the boot is full if we only pack the stroller.

Oooh, what an adventure! And what a great opportunity for P.!

Now that choice of car makes a lot more sense - I fully understand that your old car needed replacing, but with the relocation you really need the space. When I went to live in England, I somehow managed to get everything into my Cinquecento, but a) that was only one gear for one person and b) I was able to use the full space behind the front seats.

I guess that we might have looked into buying a smaller car if we didn't go to Oxford, but otoh these van-type cars cost less than smaller more stylish cars! (At least if you don't buy a tiny car.)

I do love a stylish car, put practicality comes first for us -- we don't use the car too often. Usually it stands in the garage for a week and is only used to go to my parents or shopping etc.

Moving to Oxford with three persons actually means not only packing our clothes, but a stroller and foldaway bed as well! These tiny persons do ask for lots of stuff to lug around...
I think if it was just P. doing the move he'd be able to put his stuff in the little Peugeot 106 though, but we have noticed that the trunk fills up pretty quickly when there's two, and with three persons? Not a chance we'd be able to take everything over the water. ;-)

Oh, I think the Berlingo is stylish in its own way! (Have I mentioned that my stepmom is looking into buying a Kangoo? I'm trying to convince her to wait for the C3 Picasso and also mentioned the Berlingo as an alternative.)

There are some interesting in-between options, too - like the Modus for example, but I think you made the right choice (and wasn't criticizing it to begin with, just a little puzzled), because the Modus isn't really value for money compared to the Berlingo.

We were looking into the Kangoo as well, but it's a bit pricier. If she wants she can also look at the Partner from Peugeot, which is one and the same, but different branding.

The new Berlingo is a bit bigger than the older model we bought.
The C3 Picasso stood in the showroom of the big Citroën garage in Brussels. It looks really good (but pricey for our taste).

I guess it's puzzling that we buy such a big car. Hadn't P. gone to Oxford, we'd probably would have bought something smaller.

Ah, I'll take all that information to her. She's currently on her third or fourth Twingo (she always traded it in for a new one after three years or so) and before that only ever drove the old Fiat Panda. She's always liked the Kangoo and no, she doesn't really need a big car except for the skiing holidays they go on twice a year or so.

I didn't expect the Kangoo to be more expensive than the Berlingo!

Well, the standard Kangoo model is pricier, but otoh not as stripped down as the Berlingo.

I guess a Berlingo is about twice as big as a Twingo. ;-)

She's only got a small parking space behind the house they live in and I can't imagine that a Kangoo or Berlingo would fit...

We had to measure the garage to be sure it would fit. Our spot under the building is oddly shaped...
