Rebranding
Oct. 29th, 2008 10:08 pmWarner Brothers Home Entertainment has been doing the most peculiar thing with some of the dvd-boxes they bring out here. Lately ads have been appearing in the newspaper where there's talk about recognising quality television series by the logo HBO on the cover. WB has indeed decided to rebrand the dvd-boxes they offer and use HBO as a quality label, rather than the name of a television company. But in fact they are late in doing so. Newspapers and magazines have been reviewing series and dvd-boxes while prominently mentioning HBO for a couple of years already. HBO has become synonymous with television that shouldn't adhere to certain standards of decency and shows a harsher world with swearing and nudity. Putting it prominently on the box-set is a good move, but shouldn't they have thought about this earlier?

Date: 2008-10-31 06:00 pm (UTC)I'm too lazy to research now how this is happening, but our digital cable provider hasn't realized the allure of the HBO label yet, because the HBO productions are aired on a channel called Fox (http://www.foxchannel.de/).
They also show Spooks and The West Wing so they pick and mix from various sources.
The best thing about them: Most series aren't only aired in the dubbed version, but also in their original language.
