Yesterday I found out an acquaintance lives literally right next to the school I teach at. I've been walking by his door without knowing, because we never crossed each other before. All we needed was me leaving school late because of a meeting and him coming home early, to bump into each other. Our time to chat was limited, and we didn't get further than me pointing out my pregnancy and him telling about his little kid.
It's silly to know I'll walk past his door twice a week, and not see him again, because normal working people aren't home at 3:30pm. I have lost his phone number so many years ago. Is it inappropriate of me to throw a little card in his mailbox instead?

I don't think it would be inappropriate, considering the circumstances.

Thanks, I'll write him a card then.

I think that's a fun idea. I know I'd appreciate a gesture like that and if you're still on good terms, there's a good chance your acquaintance would too.

We are still on good terms, but only cross each other in town every once in a while. This would be a good opportunity to get together for a drink or something.
