The backyard in our new appartment consists of watching over walled patches of green from the relative safety of five stories up. In one weekend I've learned which neighbours have a dog, which ones have a rabbit running through a moss filled patch they probably call lawn, and which ones are working on a nice little garden I would like to sit in. So far none of them dared to break out the barbecue, even though the meat was on sale in every possible meat-selling location. Maybe they're just nicer than our old neighbours, who would start burning wet wood the moment some rays of sun shedded their light on their patch of bunny-inhabited backyard.
I was able to get some much needed rest this weekend. I even found the energy to wash all the windows (apart from the one I can't open), bake 24 waffles and go to Hometown for a parental visit. Maybe it's school work that drains so much of my energy – not work in general. Tomorrow I head back into the ring. I've got my lesson prep. I'll be ironing my clothes to wear in just a minute. Eight more weeks before Summer break. I think I can manage that.

I hope you had a good day today and good luck for the next eight weeks. Simple tasks like washing windows and baking waffles are sometimes sort of relaxing compared to teaching.

That's what I noticed.

Had a good start today. My horrible third graders were very nice today. I wrote how horrible they were on their report. I think they got a good scolding at home...

Yep, being strict sometimes really pays off. Let's hope the effects are lasting.

Especialy with the youngsters you need to be strict, but these are kids that don't seem to take it in when I say their behaviour isn't good at all. Fortunately they take it in when mum says they don't like to hear these things from the teacher.
They were still chattering and generaly annoying, but I could teach for once.

Maybe mum took away their playstation etc. and that worked. They probably need the carrot and the stick approach.

Yep, but I quickly run out of carrots to throw and sticks to beat them with. My threats sound hollow very quickly. We'll see if they hold out on Friday and are equaly nice then... (Sorry for the strange litteral stranslation of Dutch)
