Hair!

It's one of the common oddities I come across when meeting people I don't see that often: the question whether my curls are all natural. Yesterday an middle-aged lady shook my hand and immediately popped the question as a means of getting to know each other. I smiled and nodded and said: "Had those since I was a wee little baby." "I always wanted to have curls like that, she replied." It's the standard conversation. At least she didn't touch my hair, like my headteacher did once in a fit of crazy, or like gingerpig sometimes has to endure.

If my boss touched my hair I'd be more than annoyed. You've now piqued my curiosity to know how curly your hair is.

She's a very nice lady, but sometimes her behaviour needs a bit more tact. I felt like she was invading my private space. I'm quite used to 6- and 7yos doing that, but not the other teachers, let alone my boss. Ugh. (I did post about this when it happened, but couldn't find it quickly in my archives.)

I'll have to ask the bf to take a picture of my hair then. :-)

Probably because it's straight in the one picture I've seen of you, I've always pictured you as having long straight hair.

Somehow this reminds me of when I was 15 and my teacher once asked me whether my nails were real.

Wasn't that a picture where I was in a bathing suit clambering out of the water? Wet hair doesn't have any curls. ;-)

I did have long hair at that point, but curly. It's gone rather short (above my shoulders and very layered) these days, which I like better. The only unfortunate thing about my short hair is that I can't use all my hair clips anymore.

When I still played the guitar regularly I also got asked if that were my real nails. Now I tend to keep them short. I dislike typing with long nails. (Or I got asked why I had long nails on one hand and short on the other.)

Yes it was. Even so, I never would have thought you'd have curly hair! I'm jealous, my hair is just flat and straight, even a permanent wave didn't really give it much volume.

You played guitar? This post is turning into a revelation. ;-.) I can type with long nails if they're not too long. I think having really long nails looks sort of trashy anyway, much like fake ones.

That's true. I just don't bother to file them, so end up with much too long nails, and then decide to cut them, because that is so much quicker.
