Great story and a cool concept.

Though I've got one gripe with the article: Mentioning Umberto Eco and Dan Brown in the same sentence is an insult to Eco.

I thought the same thing. In the comments on Crooked Timber, one person said: "This sounds more like Thomas Pynchon than Dan Brown." I believe that person was right. The scene might look like one from a Dan Brown novel, but the hidden clock makers aren't sinister enough or conspirational enough. It doesn't even involve ancient truths hidden in ancient books!

I so agree with you! And I bet that the journalist never read Foucault's Pendulum.
