What day are we on again? Election day +160? 162 to be precise. I must have lost interest around day 101. For one I didn't vote for the suckers that are trying to form a government. And second I see enough childish bickering during my work day – it's even done by real children and doesn't involve such heavy topics as the constitution of a country.
The Flemings want to have extra power. Fine by me. I'm dependent on the Flemish community for paying my wages. But I do not live in the Flemish region. For a lot of things I must follow the Brussels legislation. Belgium, with it numerous parlements, governments and prime ministers, is bit of an anomaly, concocted by the predecessors of our current generation of politicians. You can either live with it, or try to make it better. Alas, what's "better" isn't common knowledge. Is it more power for communities and regions or less?
The Flemish and French-speaking communities sit around the table with completely opposite views of one and the same country. They're pointing fingers at each other about who started this debacle. I wish I could say what I say to the kids at school: "You're old enough to solve that problem yourself. And button your coat. It's cold out." But the politician's coats are usualy buttoned, so their faces look extra grim. It's like that columnist said, a while back when we thought it would take long but not that long: "This is the only country in the world with two oppressed majorities."
The two groups dislike each other enough to make housewives fear the split of their beloved country. The march for unity got about 35.000, mainly French-speaking people going. Is that another oppressed majority? For once I do not seem to care. I have all the grand words I used to utter far behind me. It's not my job to form a government. I just wish they would get on with it and not get into my way too much. But don't we all want that from a government?

It must be really rather frustrating, not having a government, because the politicians are behaving like little kids in their sandbox and arguing over their toys.

Do you think they'll finally see sense and get this resolved? Who is going to kick them into shape? The king? The people? Or is this really the beginning of the end?
