Every group of teenagers functions according to a set plan. There are certain roles that are given to the different members of the group: there's the Silent One, who simply follows suit with the rest, there's the Silent Leader who, at first, doesn't seem to have too much to say, but is actualy the one deciding where to go, there's the Loud One who instigates all mischief and is in constant demand of attention, which she does indeed get. When these roles are well played, the annoyance factor of the teenage group goes up.

At the party [livejournal.com profile] sister_luck and I attended yesterday, we could witness the inner workings of the teenage pack. We didn't chaperone, so were surprised when suddenly the teen brigade walzed in, crashing what was actualy a thing for 20- and 30-somethings. Not very at ease, they installed themselves on one side of the dance floor. Hanging around in the typical talking circle, trying to be cool, no-one payed much attention to them. Until the Loud One decided it was time for her and the group to manifest themselves. By this time the dancefloor was taken by women showing all very different dance styles. The teenage bunch wanted to amuse themselves by dancing around to anyone that came close to them. They would just pick someone out and all stand around her and make dancelike movements. Finder of the victim was the Loud One, a blonde teenage girl, wearing the strange combination of bermudas with tights and ballerinas. She thought herself all that, with the loud obnoxious yelling, and annoying dancing. But turning her back, she didn't behave very ladylike: adjusting your thong isn't something to do in public. Still her self-esteem was high, and she was in full swing of things when the Silent Leader said it was time to go. Their parents came to collect them at one.

Moments later she comes in again, her face less confident than before. She's looking for her jacket, that she seems to have misplaced. The insecurity has scratched that facade of pretended adolescence to reveal the little kids underneath.

See here (http://frances-lievens.livejournal.com/216581.html). I jokingly posted that, and she seriously said yes, so drove over on Wednesday after school, and stayed till Thursday evening. It's a pity you couldn't come! ;-)

Next time we'll do a big Summer party and everyone can come over!
