Scene 1: The school's kitchen, where I find The Head, slurping his soup with the cleaning lady. The third party is the guy who works on the school's computers. They're having conversations about internet connections. I pipe in, because actualy I have to talk to The Head.

Me: Well, about tomorrow, what's the deal? We, the religion and morality teachers, have no clue whether they're expected to join the conference.

The Head: Erm... well... yeah... thing is we'll start tomorrow at nine with a staff meeting and then we're going bowling. The staff meeting doesn't really apply to you anyway. Erm... yeah...

Me: I don't think Miss Catholic would like to go bowling – being very pregnant and all.

The Head: No no, of course not.

(He falls silent. By this point I actualy wish to tell him I don't want to come, because I've got better things to do than sit around during a staff meeting that doesn't apply to me, and go bowling as a way of "team building". But I'm interrupted by hungry children in need of supervision.)

Scene 2: I'm in V.'s room, marking tests. It's actualy not my job to do, but since no-one can provide me with a better alternative I'll do it. It's actualy half an hour after the end of school. I've been waiting for The Head to get out of his meeting.

The Head: Miss Frances?

Me: Yeah?

The Head: Ah, miss Frances, were you looking for me, just now?

Me: Yes, about tomorrow.

The Head: Of course tomorrow. Well erm... Yeah erm... I think... (I so want to say I don't want to come, but I can't. These are decisions you shouldn't make yourself.) I think I won't need the special* teachers tomorrow. So you'll have the day off. (Finaly he says what I knew he was going to say all along.)

So tomorrow I've got an extra, unplanned, and completely off the record day off!

*Yep, we're the disabled bunch! No, it's the actual and true translation of the code I go by: "Bijzondere Leerkracht". It refers to those teachers that don't have normal primary school teaching jobs, but take all classes, because they teach gym or one of the worldview courses.

Well, this is why I don't want to teach. It's not the kids, it's the adults I cannot deal with.

I would have told the head, ยต
-You don't actually need me to be there, right?
-Uh, right...
-Ok then, holiday for me!
-euh, I do think we could use your input at the staff meeting, but you don't need to stay for bowling
-TOO LITTLE TOO LATE YOU CONDESCENDING etc etc

You get the pic; I cannot deal with authority figures esp in schools

It's why I like teaching morality: I don't really have to deal with Heads and others of their likeness that much. Whenever I need them, I'll ask and usualy I just do my thing, and they don't bother me. Plus working in two schools actualy cuts back on having to deal with authority figures.

I don't deal too well with authority either, but it takes other things to get me cursing and swearing than the incompetence of The Head. And well, The Head is easy to lead in his thoughts. You just have to give him the impression he came up with that idea all by himself, whereas I was actualy steering him towards making sure I didn't have to come. *g*
