Innovation
Jun. 4th, 2005 10:12 pmThose Greeks knew it all before us. Without the cellphones, the internet or even women having their say in things, they have answers for almost every problem we currently encounter. For instance, when looking for a theoretical framework to place the idea of an ethical understanding of art criticism I turn to Martha Nussbaum. She uses a book written by Henry James published at the end of the 19th century, to explain how every novel is written in a moral code. It was Socrates who put James onto this idea in the first place.
The infinite return of the same... It appeals to me. There isn't much to innovate, but so much more to reinterpret.
