Would it be possible to attend this conference with a paper on the alleged reality of possible worlds in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer? I'd have to brush off my non-existent analytic philosophy skills for that one, and it doesn't really relate to "understanding social life and human experience", but I could always give a turn to it couldn't I? Then there's only the problem of not being an academic.
