not my god
Nov. 16th, 2004 10:02 amWherever I look, whichever blog I read, I seem to trip over evidence for an upsurge of religious fundamentalism, not only amongst muslims, but also within christian communities.
The find of today is a story on Smart or Happy. Bob Jones University, "bastion of 14th century values", has declared interracial marriage as antagonistic to God. Here's the "reasoning", as paraphrased on Smart or Happy:
It isn't just disturbing, but plain scary to read that these people need to project their own fears for everything that's different into God's Will. They cannot see the truth about those fears, because they are blinded by their faith.
Freud* anyone?
*and (to a certain degree) Nietzsche and Marx

Does the University believe that those who choose interracial marriage do so out of rebellion against God? No. It does believe, however, that often the promoters of it do so out of antagonism toward God because they are often the same entities that promote homosexuality, abortion, and other forms of social radicalism.
