Eurovision goes quality
Jan. 9th, 2007 06:35 pmMorrissey might be seen on a stage in Helsinki, competing for the kitschiest of all trofees: winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Of course nothing is confirmed just yet and there are only talks of him writing, and possibly performing a song. In the preselections.
At least he'll be in good company. Daan (of icon-fame) has declared he'd love to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. His Eurokitsch of mixing three languages into an incredibly sexy song might give him a shot at the winning place. But he has also declared he only goes, if he doesn't have to go through those bloody preselections.

Date: 2007-01-09 06:38 pm (UTC)Pet Shop Boys would be great. Do you think they'd be able to win the Eastern European votes?
We sent Telex (http://www.telex-music.com/) in 1980. I think they were a bit ahead of the game, and finished last. You can watch the clip here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdfoUAl8KPE). It's from the same guys that brought you Moscow Discow. Marc Moulin has become a big producer since!

We seem to be sending either clowns or really awful stuff.

Date: 2007-01-09 09:16 pm (UTC)We also have some great performances that ended last, and have since ankered themselves into the Flemish and even European collective memory: Pas de Deux with Rendez-Vous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRfve3wHYUY) (1984), Nicole & Hugo with Baby Baby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKOm8epleTA) (1973) and the above mentioned Telex.
Of course these are all before my Eurovision watching days. The choreography for Soldiers of Love by Liliane St.-Pierre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw8xRQoN-i4) wasn't bad either. Especialy look at the guitarists in the back that are actualy firing love with their guitars (at least that's what the lyrics indicate).

My first Eurovision memory is Nicole winning with Ein bisschen Frieden in I think 1981 - didn't watch the actual show, but I remember the aftermath.

Ok, I'd look silly, period.

P.P.S.: Making the V-sign in a crowd doesn't make you look silly in the least. *g*
