"So it goes."
Jan. 1st, 2007 08:40 pmEntering the new year I concluded my reading of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five. It must have been the third time I started reading said book, but this time I made it to the end of the very good little novel. (I even noticed I almost finished the book the previous time, but something must have interrupted me. Maybe Tralfamadorians.) It's a quirky little book, in which genres are mixed through the use of the time- and space-traveling protagonist, Billy Pilgrim. Vonnegut manages to make the oaf Billy Pilgrim into a meaningful character. Pilgrim is the embodiment of the philosophy and the message of the book.
2006 has died and we started 2007 with cheers and the sounds of fireworks to ward off the ghosts we don't believe in anymore. Reading Slaughterhouse-Five I suddenly only wanted to shrug together with Billy Pilgrim. A year has gone. So it goes.
