Theatre Critic
Nov. 21st, 2006 10:40 amYesterday arrived the latest issue of Courant, the magazine compiled by the Flemish Theatre Institute. This period the theme is art criticism. Reading through it, it occurs to me there is still a place for ideas I had years ago. Every year they seem to crop up once because I suddenly want to start writing in the field of theatre criticism again, but then I bury it all, thinking someone else will have the same ideas at a certain point in time and write it all down for me. There is always someone with the same idea as someone else. But I think I've guessed wrong. The only version of my thoughts I've discovered so far are applied in video games theory.
It must have been four years since I first wrote a rudimentary version of a project. I don't really follow all the discussion that's going on in the field, but everything I read, leaves a big gaping hole where my stuff fits in. When the discussion focusses on the place of the critic in the media, other writers don't see the language they use themselves. And don't question that language. Maybe I've finally found the incentive to write everything down, and to search for a way to have it made public.
