And suddenly I feel invisible. Her big behind sways in my direction, and in a flash I imagine her climbing on top of me, thinking the place I occupy on this bus is actualy a vacant seat. I think I wouldn't even scream, but just make do with all the pounds of flesh hiding me from view. "Maybe my protruding bones will chase her away," I think, but then see the meat that can sit on ten drawing pins without noticing.
All these thoughts race through my head the instant I see her big behind sway in my direction, then slowly turning and climbing into the empty seat next to mine. I notice she's actualy carrying a folding chair, but that isn't what you sit on when inside a bus. She swings it over her shoulder like a soldier's bag the moment she gets off.

Fumbling for some small coins in the small bag with the book money I'm smiling nervously at the cashier trying to reassure her that I'll find the right amount of cash. Suddenly I'm elbowed out of the way. A tracksuit with a long pony-tail has stepped up to the counter leaning over and asks "You have her brand of cigarettes?". I manage to hand over the coins but am struggling with the zipper of my purse. We're competing for space while she is reaching over to grab a cheap plastic lighter. "I'm standing here," I blurt out in anger. Her oblivious answer: "That's alright with me. I don't mind." The instant playground retort is on my lips: "But I was here first." - "Oh," the pony-tail is coming out of her own private world. The cashier smiles at me and glares at the tracksuit who is ready to pay for her loot: "I would have shouted at her a lot sooner."

Whatever the city, we all encounter the same kind of people.

I probably wouldn't have shouted at track suit. Glaring is more my thing.
