The soundtrack to everyday life.
Sep. 27th, 2006 09:07 pmWith the changing soundtrack accompanying my daily ride on Brussels' public transport, the images I have of this city keep shifting and changing too. Today, when the bus passed that big square two stops from home, the somewhat sad music coming from my earbuds made me acknowledge the loneliness of the big city. For a split second I wasn't looking at my neighbourhood, but at a cold metropole. I never, in the 9 years I've lived here, considered living in something bigger and less personal than the Middle of Nowhere I grew up in. Instead I needed a whiny male voice, accompanied by acoustic guitars, strings and a piano to show me the solitude. Let me say this, voice: it was only a trick of the light.
