Doing my daily rounds on blogspace I encountered a bookmeme over at Greg Restall's place. Since I have nothing else of importance to say, I'll copy it here and provide my own answers.
  • One book that changed your life
Aidan Chambers, Dance on My Grave [At 15 I was struck by a romance story between two men. There hasn't changed much since.]
  • One book you've read more than once
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings [First read was in Dutch, second in English, since generally used to look up things that happen in the films. Just the other day P. and I were checking the maps provided in the books to see where the Fellowship were.]
  • One book you'd want on a desert island
Heiner Müller, Wolokolamsker Chaussee I-V [On a desert island I will spend my days shouting at the waves.]
  • One book that made you laugh
Roald Dahl, My Uncle Oswald [I remember being baffled with everything Dahl dared to write, but also finding it very hilarious.]
  • One book that made you cry
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix [Yes, I'm a sap. I sniffled when Sirius fell, although I was spoiled for his death when reading the book.]
  • One book you wish had been written
The Reader's Guide to French Philosophy (preferably in Dutch, but English would do as well) [French is a language that's very hard to read (for me at least). I'm not fluent in it, like with English. Mostly I can get by and understand everything – until I encounter a philosophical text and am completely and utterly lost.]
  • One book you wish had never been written
John Rawls, Political Liberalism (or pollib for the friends) [This book was the nightmare of my first year at uni. (Together with the question on the oral exam: "On page x John Rawls writes y in footnote z. What does this statement imply for the complete text?" I can assure you I hadn't read footnote y on page x and had hardly understood, be it actualy read the complete text.)]
  • One book you're currenlty reading
Philip K. Dick, Minority Report [You can read what I have to say about Phil K. Dick over at [profile] salon_virtuel.]
  • One book you've been meaning to read
Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughter House Five [It's a great book. I've started more than once in it, but I simply aren't able to finish it.]
  • Tag 5 people
You know the drill: I don't tag. But if you feel inclined to fill out the questionaire, be my guest.

Slaughterhouse Five is indeed very good. And Roal Dahl is indeed so much fun!

Damn, I think I'm going to try to read Slaughterhouse Five again when I've finished Phil K. Dick...
