Les Bleus*
Jun. 20th, 2006 06:20 pmThe crowd cheers when the teams enter the field. This is the match they've all been waiting for: the grand finale between the tournament champion and a wild card, that has challenged them for the cup. The ref whistles and off they go. Les Bleus control the ball, but not for long. The challenging team, in multicoloured and non-matching outfits, gains field, attempts to score, but a great save from Les Bleus' keeper keeps the 0-0 firmly on the score-board.
90 minutes and some attempts at scoring, as well as some disallowed goals later (off-side), it's 1-1. Bleus and Multicoloureds are facing penalties. The crowd is cheering them on once more.
"Allez Les Bleus! Allez Les Bleus! Allez!"
But to no avail. Once champions of their world, they leave the battle field with hanging heads and tears in their eyes. Les Bleus, technically the better, are defeated by the other team, because they're bigger. The school champion must admit that even on the football field it's the teachers that rule.
*But in a tiny, primary school version.

Date: 2006-06-20 05:59 pm (UTC)It's a recap of what happened on Friday afternoon on the school-ground: a match between the fourth-graders (who'd won the school tournament) and a team of assorted teachers, led by the gym teacher. The pupils wore matching blue outfits and were prepared to smash the teachers (a team of which only half knew how to play football), but they lost, because teachers are almost double the size of primary school pupils.
(I guess it isn't that clear if you don't know all the details of my life...)
