Not doing your job?

My one and only pupil on Thursday mornings isn't there. So I'm sitting in the teacher's lounge tapping away at the computer when Mr Principal enters. With his rather heavy and strict voice he barks at me: "Miss Frances!" I turn. "Yes?" I answer rather feebly, thinking I shouldn't answer this way, but what does one do when she gets barked at. There must come some kind of reprimand or an important message. But nothing comes. Mr Principal comes in, barks at me, writes something on the message board and is off again. Seems a simple "Hello" isn't in his vocabulary.
