There's such a hiatus between educated individuals living in democratic countries and indoctrinated crowds living in the Third World and asking for blood.

But religious fundamentalism is everywhere and already working in supposed democracies, imposing its truth, its rules. It's less obvious but very effective. Just think of those American schools where the the theory of an Intelligent Designer has to be taught as well as the theory of evolution in sciences courses.

It is what I fear. Everything we fought for, everything we wanted to achieve gets thrown away. And we, the secular people, aren't allowed anymore to speak our minds.

I don't want to be a pessimist, but recent events seem to drive me that way.

I try to educate, but sometimes I want to disappear into an ivory tower and stay there. It's defaitist, I know, but when you have the feeling you can't even have a good influence on 10 year olds...
