Pink's for princesses

LB's favourite colour used to be blue. Ever since watching the Timmy Time episode where the little sheep learns that the world is much more fun when not everything is coloured blue, she developed a fondness for the colour. She still preferred it when she went to school in September. When she moved classes in November, she started to notice there was a difference between boys and girls. of course this difference goes further than natural appearances and boys having weewees and girls not. Like every kid, LB picked up on the cultural differences immediately: she started loving pink, and preferring a world that's all pinkefied in skirts and sandals. We try to counter the influence of her school friends by providing different colours. She loves many colours, and being anything but delicate in her play, she wears her skirts like a wild child. I'm not too impressed with her school teacher though*. To prepare for Mother's Day the kids talked about Mama caring for the baby and taking the kids to cool. Preparing for Father's Day includes talking about different professions and Papa's car. A big portion of the parents at LB's school are mothers that stay at home. But isn't it part of the education provided by the school to show differences in life styles? Why should toddlers see at school what they know from home? It's when they are confronted with differences at a young age that they won't consider these as different.

* Apart from her somewhat traditional views, she's a wonderful teacher and LB likes her very much.
