Yesterday I got nearly knocked over by five girls starting a group hug. Today I got some more. Even the religious pupils commented they were happy to see me. As did the secretary today. "It's nice to have you back." When I reply with surprise, she adds: "People don't say that enough." She knows. She's been working with another secretary who shouts at random people whenever it's not her day – and it's not her day most days. Nice Secretary has been ever so lovely since she got her transfer to another school.
Most cherished is a mother's comment: "Kid* is happy you're back. She says you're the best morality teacher." She doesn't know many teachers to compare with, but it's nice to know you're appreciated. Especially at a time when you're stumped by your own mediocrity and wish to excel.
*She's Smarty Pants' little sister. There's a family tradition to uphold.
