Coming home from a quick trip to town I pass a small group of children in the underground station. They all clutch of piece of fibreboard under their arms. I don't pay much attention to them when I pass.
"Hi, Miss Frances!" a tiny voice squeaks behind me. I turn and notice one of my soon-to-be forth-graders walking among the little group. She's doing a Summer camp where they paint and make other kinds of art-ifacts.
Was she glad to see me? I don't know. She must have been surprised. I'm one of the few teachers of her school who lives in Brussels. Most of my colleagues live outside the urban area and have a long commute to school every day.
I was glad she called out my name though. I would never have dared that with one of my teachers. For me it means she feels comfortable in my class. I hope she'll keep on feeling comfortable for the next three years we'll be spending together.

While chatting with P. (who happens to be on the other side of the world) I was watching The Guild. Those 5-minute-episodes made sure I could watch them and keep a decent conversation going at the same time. Trying to explain to P. what the concept of the "series" was, I was reminded of a film I've seen ages ago. I can't remember the name, the director, or who the fuck was in it. I only recall a storyline around people constantly phoning each other. I believe it starts with a party, where no-one shows up, because they're all too busy. So the host starts calling up people. That's the whole concept of the film: they call. Conference calls, second lines, whatever... Friends who weren't friends before meet through the telephone. Two of them fall in love. But in the end their lives spent on the telephone, are only reflections of a normal life. None of them actually dares meeting the others face to face.
It's frustrating how I have the entire colour scheme and the feel of the film in my head. I guess it's early nineties: big phones, only a few of the characters have a portable phone, big shoulder pads, and bright colours. Unfortunately IMDB hasn't got the feature yet where you can plug straight in from your brain and it goes looking for possible image results. Can any of you guys help? Please?

Edit: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] frenchani I can inform you all I was talking about Denise Calls Up. The title doesn't even ring a bell, but the description does.
