It's been a while since I encountered frowns and blank stares when I talked about online life. This is partly due to the fact that I hardly talk about online life. At school my closest colleagues know I have friends abroad, but since I never bring up how I met these people, they don't think about something so elusive as the interwebs. My close friends and family know about my internet-habit, but most of them can't be bothered to read what I write on here. They prefer the phone to talk. When [livejournal.com profile] sister_luck came to visit two weeks ago, I suddenly did get some raised eyebrows. The usual questions get asked and they all end with "just for the day". Isn't there anyone who has driven two hours to visit a city, just for the day? I believe there are people that drive two hours to go to work and two hours to return, because they end up in traffic jams. [livejournal.com profile] sister_luck didn't even face traffic jams when she came – they're all into the opposite direction in the evening.
People do tend to be civilised in their questions. Still, there must be more persons that want to ask the question A. did pose: "And she didn't turn out to be a psycho-bitch?" In answer I just sighed, roled my eyes, and said I probably knew her longer than I knew him. For him the internet is a superficial way of communicating. When I tell him that it's actualy the biggest part of my social life, I only get the blank stare in return. I bet he was silently taking pity on me.
