Since next week is the first of September and that equals the start of the school year, the government comes bearing gifts to please the workforce: I will be earning a little extra next year. It's but a fickle newsitem that suddenly gets repeated every hour on the radio, and frankly I don't care*. To my standards it isn't newsworthy that I suddenly earn a few bucks more. I get by with what is deposited in my bank account at the end of every month. Just don't get me started on how much I gave up when I decided to switch from secondary school to teaching in primary school.

*Though I seem to care enough to blog about it. Speaking of discrepancies...

Sifting through the clutter on my desk, I find print-outs of exam questions from my previous teaching job. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. The paper you accumulate when you do the bulk of your work at home is terrible. Most of this stuff I have on my computer as well. And a back-up on an external hard drive. Instead I hold on to the hard copies, because I might want to use them anew, and then I don't have to print them again, saving ink and paper.
But there's too much of it. Bits of paper here, pages and memos there. No wonder I sometimes forget when we have a day off: an important piece of paper generally looks the same as the less important ones. Maybe I should just chuck it all out and rely solely on this piece of electronics. Or maybe I should consider moving house: nothing is as good to get your ass in gear when it comes to throwing unnecessary clutter away than the knowledge you'll never open certain boxes once you've stashed them in the attic of your new place. So you better get rid of them before your arms hurt.
