"I intend this breast satirically."

What actually makes men nervous on a first date is the question if they will get lucky. Women don't have to worry about this, for they already know the answer. It is one of the many wisdoms disguised as witty remarks that jump of the screen in Coupling, a fine British series that I'm currently exploring on dvd. I got the three first seasons cheap with one of those "cut out the coupon"-things my newspaper does. And I still had some vouchers that desperately needed to be used, or they would be invalid. To cut myself short before I start whining: I got the three seasons for the price of one.I've been enjoying Coupling just as much as the first time round when I watched an occasional episode on canvas. The dialogue is hilarious and the characters are so over the top that you can laugh at them without feeling guilty. On the other hand: however strange they are, it's all very recognisable. Who has never met this complete dumbass girl that doesn't even know she's being dumped? Who hasn't got a very good friend all the other people you know frown upon?
The dialogue blows serious conversations we all have about relationships and sex up into these gigantic proportions. Suddenly you're confronted with the absurdity of it all. I've been talking a lot about girlfriends and boyfriends and all those lately and I must say: people take this whole relationship-thing very serious, but only if we'd look at ourselves from a distance, we'd realise we're nothing more than characters from Coupling.
