I'm looking at a week off from school. I already put that time to some good use installing X11, Fink and The Gimp, all open source applications. The first one basically enables you to run visual interfaces on Mac OS X that use unix, but not the OS, the second one searches for packages and installs them on your computer, and the third one was actually the package I needed: a photo-editing tool. I must say I was impressed. The previous links all give a short and point by point account of what you need to do to install the software and that isn't much more than clicking the download link and/or typing a command in the terminal application. Fink allows you to go looking for software packages online simply by typing the command in your terminal application. This is so powerful software and completely free. I'm impressed by what people achieve and how much time they must spend on things like these, simply for our convenience. I've also learned more about how my computer actually works, which is a plus when it crashes. Oh, and as of now I only install things on my own. P. thinks he knows all about it, but ends up wanting to do everything by himself, and he doesn't know more than me. He only assumes that when he decides he has read through the manual more quickly.
So be prepared to get some pictures from me in the not too distant future, now I'm finally able to rotate them and change the colour saturation.
