Which is exactly the village of Menglon in the Drôme region in France. That doesn't say much, does it? The Drôme region and Le Parc Naturel du Vercors, that borders to the Drôme, form the transition between the Alps and the Provence in France. You have mountains and pine woods, but also lavender and sunflowers. The scenery is very divers.

We stayed in the chambre d'hôte of Dominique and Maryse. If you're ever planning on going to this region, stay with them. They are a very friendly couple, the breakfast is enormous with organic bread and yoghurt, home made jam and real butter. Delicious. For a couple of euros extra, you can eat dinner with them as well. Four courses and wine make sure you won't go home feeling hungry. Dominique and Maryse sit with you at the table and it's also an opportunity to come to know the other guests.

Menglon is kind of "the middle of nowhere" for us city people (meaning P. and I). There is nothing more to do than explore the nature, more specifically the mountains. We've done numerous walks up in the mountains, so I've taken loads of pictures of that. Once I get them from the shop I'll post some up here, which is way more interesting than reading this, I think. :-)

Going into the mountains was also some sort of escape from other tourists. We wanted some peace and quiet, but ended up in towns overrun by tourists, that were staying on the nearby camping grounds. Mostly Belgians and Dutch. I have now witnessed that it is true: half of the Belgian population that goes on a holiday chooses France as its destination. Dutch people you'll find everywhere. So we went to Die or Châtillon en Diois (two little towns nearby) and bought our bread and cheese and then drove away in our little car, to some walking route, where I promptly started proclaiming it was too far and high and I was tired and hungry. Hey, I'm only 24, I still can act like a kid, right? And I'm completely a-sportive. That was probably the reason for the pains in my butt after the first walk we took (up the St-Justin de la Croix: 600m climbing).

After five days of walking we were kind of fed up with it (oooh, those muscles, I'm sooooo tired...), so we decided to take a day off and drove around a bit in the car (more scenery -- more tourists). Then two more days of walking (no we didn't do much else) and then home. That took us another two days. We went through Dijon, a very nice city. Yesterevening we ended up in Brussels again and I must say: How much I love the country and like spending some time in the quiet, the city is more my natural habitat.
